‘Fast Forward’ event organized by Fashioning an Ethical Industry

Dr Clare Rose has been a member of the Steering Committee of Fashioning an Ethical Industry since 2006, creating events and publications for design students and practitioners. Her research on the origins of ethical consumption is featured in her publication, Clothing Society and Culture, vol.2 (Pickering & Chatto, 2010).

In March 2010 Clare Rose organized a performance of the factory inspection scene from Warp and Woof (Edith Lyttelton, 1904) at the Fashioning an Ethical Industry Fast Forward Conference at Rich Mix, London. This was welcomed by Anannya Bhattacharjee, Coordinator of the Asia Floor Wage Campaign, as an example of the continued relevance of abusive practices in the garment industry. The piece was directed by Hanah Draper and performed by Kate Cooper, Sarah Bedford and other students from London Metropolitan University.

Clare Rose has lectured on the Post Graduate Diploma in Sustainable Design at Cavendish College, London and has taught Ethical Design at Bath Spa University and the University of the Arts London, supervising many student research projects on related topics.
